Conclusion and Analysis of the Week

Last week’s report shows that all over the country, 695 people have been killed and injured (351 of them were killed and 344 wounded) from 2 – 8 August 2019. This week, however, the casualties’ toll of the warring parties and civilians was high, but it shows a slight decrease comparing to the previous week.

Last week, 121 pro-government forces were killed, but this week, the figure decreased to 117.  The number of Taliban killed members toll was 236 persons last week, but this week it shows a decrease where 175 Taliban fighters were killed. There were also 133 civilian casualties last week, but this week it has dropped to about half as 59 persons were killed all over the country.

This week, most of the civilian casualties were due to explosions and magnetic bomb blasts in populated areas, the largest of which occurred near to PD6 of Kabul city, killing and injuring a large number of civilians. On the other side, fortunately the casualties to civilians due to airstrikes and night operations by Afghan and foreign forces have dropped significantly this week.

QASED Strategic Research Center, while there is hope on the ongoing Afghan peace talks in Qatar, strongly urges both sides of the war to reduce the current violence for stopping the ongoing bloodshed in the country, particularly pay close attention to the lives of civilians and avoid attacks in populous and civilian areas.
